Prof. Schobben retired in September 2012.
Prof. Schobben obtained his pharmacist degree at the University of Utrecht in 1975. The next four years he was research fellow at the Radboud Hospital In Nijmegen to study antiepileptic drugs in animals and humans, including a multidisciplinary treatment appoach in institutionalised mentally handicapped patients. In 1979 he obtained his Ph.D. degree on the thesis “Pharmacokinetics and therapeutics in epilepsy”. This research was continued for 6 months at the dpt. of Neurology of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
From 1980 until 2010 he was hospital pharmacist at the University Medical Center Utrecht. His main areas of interest are farmacotherapy, drug research and ethical review. He is still member of the Medical Ethical Review Board of the hospital. In 1988 Prof. Schobben was appointed as member of the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board; he was acting vice-chairman from 2000-2007. In 1997 he was registered as clinical pharmacologist. He is member of the Central College for the registration of pharmacy specialists and of the Board of the National Institute of Post-Academic Education of Pharmacy .

In 1988 Prof. Schobben joined the Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology group as part time teacher. In 2001 he was appointed professor of Clinical Pharmacotherapy.
He is responsible for the education during the patient-oriented part of the pharmacy program. He is chairman of the management team education of the school of pharmacy and member of the management team of the department of Pharmaceutica Sciences.
